GERD Procedures
Battling frequent acid reflux, also referred to as GERD, oftentimes has an impact on your daily life. You may find yourself avoiding certain foods or activity to prevent or decrease discomfort. Even though GERD is common, in fact, it occurs in 1 in 5 Americans, your symptoms should not go untreated.
What is GERD?
GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease is a chronic condition caused by the esophageal valve not closing properly. Heartburn is the most common symptom of GERD, but is not a guaranteed warning sign. Other symptoms may include:
- Regurgitation of food or drinks
- Chest pain
- Food intolerance
- Sore throat
- Sour taste in mouth
- Hoarse voice
- Dental erosion
- Irritated throat
- Persistent cough
You may also find that your symptoms:
- Worsen at night
- Worsen when bending
- Worsen when eating
- Worsen when lying down
- Are temporarily relieved by antacids
