Breast/Pelvic/Pap Exams
The obstetricians and gynecologists at CentraCare specialize in obstetrics (OB) and gynecology (GYN). They do not offer primary care services or manage medications not directly related to their specialty.
Do I need care at an OB/GYN clinic or family medicine/internal medicine clinic?
When considering where to go for care, this chart might help you decide between an OB/GYN clinic and family medicine/internal medicine clinic.
At times in your life, you may need to see both an OB/GYN and a family medicine/internal medicine clinician, for example, when pregnant or between pregnancies.
What is the difference between a Breast/Pelvic/Pap exam and an Annual Physical/Wellness exam?
Below are details on what to possibly expect at a Breast/Pelvic/Pap exam versus an Annual Physical/Wellness exam. We hope these lists can help you determine the best option for you so that you receive the most effective care at the most appropriate location.
Before setting up a visit, we recommend checking with your insurance company regarding coverage. Insurance companies tend to only cover either one Breast/Pelvic/Pap exam or one annual Physical/Wellness exam per year.
Patients who are pregnant will have a breast and pelvic exam at the OB/GYN clinic during their first OB consult and 6 weeks after having the baby. If a Pap smear also is due, it will be completed at that time.
