According to the Minnesota Department of Health, one in four Minnesota adults have high cholesterol. At CentraCare Heart & Vascular Center, we know this issue significantly impacts people within our region and that’s why we created a specialized Lipid Clinic.
Lipids are types of fat that include:
- Total cholesterol
- LDL (bad) cholesterol
- HDL (good) cholesterol
- Triglycerides
Fats can be good for cell health, but fats in high levels can be harmful and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.

- Elevated lipid (cholesterol) lab results
- Personal or family history of coronary artery disease (heart attack, heart surgeries)
- Elevated lipid (cholesterol) readings despite diet changes and medication
- Statin intolerance or side effects from cholesterol-lowering medication
