Cardiac Nutrition
You’ve heard about the benefits of following a heart-healthy diet, but if you’re unsure of what this might look like in your day-to-day life, the CentraCare Heart & Vascular Center offers several programs that can help.
Personalized Meal Plans
A cardiac dietitian can review your diet and develop a personalized meal plan based on your goals or health condition:
- Heart disease
- Heart failure/cardiomyopathy
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Weight management
Metabolic Testing
We offer metabolic (calorimetry) testing. This test shows how many calories you burn at rest. The results further specify nutrition and exercise needs.
Cardiac Rehab
Within our Pritikin Intensive Cardiac Rehab Program, all patients meet one-on-one visit with a registered dietitian. They also can attend five nutrition workshops and 11 cooking demonstrations. Studies show that the greater attendance at these events provides improved outcomes.
The nutrition workshop topics include:
- Fueling a healthy body
- Label reading
- Navigating menus
- Targeting your nutrition priorities
- Mindful eating
The cooking demonstration topics include:
- Adding flavor without salt
- Fast breakfasts
- Soups & salads (two sessions)
- Simple sides
- Appetizers & snacks
- Desserts
- Plant-based proteins
- Fast evening meals
- Weekend breakfast ideas
- Efficiency cooking
