The Child Advocacy Center (CAC) provides a range of information for professionals working with abused children.
Statistics
Local Level:
- Stearns County Human Services received 2,165 reports of child maltreatment in 2020.
- In that same year, Benton County Human Services received 640 reports of child maltreatment.
State Level:

In 2020, Minnesota Child Protection agencies received 71,606 reports of child maltreatment. This is a 16.7% decrease from 2019, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Of the reports received, 43.7% were screened in for assessment or investigation.

The completed assessments/investigations involved 14,878 victims of neglect, 7,051 victims of physical abuse, 3,883 victims of threatened injury, 3,601 victims of sexual abuse and 1,156 victims of mental injury.
National Level:
- 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused by age 18.
- There are 42 million survivors of child sexual abuse in the United States.
- 90% of abused children know their abuser.
