Rice Memorial Hospital School of Radiologic Technology

Radiologic technologists, or radiographers, are key members of the healthcare team who use their expertise of imaging equipment and patient care to produce radiographic images of the human body to diagnose patient injury or illness.

The Rice Memorial Hospital School of Radiologic Technology trains students to become Radiologic Technologists (Radiographers). Upon successful completion of the program, students will earn an AAS degree from Ridgewater College in Radiologic Technology, a Certificate of completion from the program, and be qualified to sit for the ARRT national exam to earn certification to add the credentials RT(R) after their name.

The Radiography credentials are the base requirement for many other imaging modalities. With that degree and certificate of completion graduates will be able to work in and earn credentials in various medical imaging modalities including general X-ray, CT, MRI, and Mammography — just to list a few.

Application

We accept one cohort of 8 students each year at the end of May. Applications will be open from late January through early February.

Applicants must be enrolled at Ridgewater College and complete these prerequisites with a minimum GPA of 2.5

  • BIOL 2100 Human Anatomy (minimum C grade)
  • CMST 1210 or 2260 (Communication course choice)
  • PRNU 1617 Medical Terminology
  • ENGL 1210 or ENGL 1209 & ENGL 0980
  • MATH 1120 or MATH 1125 & MATH 0995

Scheduling

Not including prerequisites, students will spend about 21 months in the Rice Memorial Hospital School of Radiologic Technology.

Students spend about half of their total time in class and the other half in clinical rotations.

Classes are full-time, typically between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday -Friday.

Clinical assignments are scheduled somewhere between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. and include a few weekend schedules. Students know their schedule months ahead of time.

Clinical sites are mostly in Willmar with other sites in Benson and Redwood Falls.
