  Biography

  What I Do
  Nursing is a great profession because it is a mix of both science and innate/instinctive caring. I am humbled by the reality that we are all healthcare consumers to some degree or another. I try to be mindful that it is not just a “patient” I am working with but rather an “individual.”
  My clinical interest is oncology, specifically breast cancer.

  Why I Love My Work
  What I enjoy most about my job is teaching patients and their families about their condition and treatment and being a resource to patients and other healthcare staff.

  Getting to Know Me
  I’ve always enjoyed science and found joy in working as a nursing assistant in high school. When I applied for my nursing internship while in nursing school, I didn’t expect to be placed in oncology. Three days into my internship, I was grateful for this surprise. My internship turned into a job offer, and I have worked in oncology ever since. My husband is a cancer survivor and my mother had cancer for three years before she passed away. When they were going through their cancer care, I felt as if they were so well taken care of. I’m hopeful that I can take care of other families like other nurses have taken care of mine.

  My husband and I both grew up in Central Minnesota. We lived in North Carolina for a few years while he served in the US Marine Corps. Though the warm climate and ocean breeze was attractive, being near family was very important to the both of us. Outside of work, I enjoy trying new coffee shops, spending time outside, cooking and baking. Some of my best recipes have come from my previous patients!
