If You Can’t Speak for Yourself, Who Will Speak for You?
Make your health care wishes known through Advance Care Planning
It’s a common misconception that Advance Care Planning (ACP) is only for those who are very old or very sick. In fact, having ACP conversations can help everyone who is in a health care situation where they can’t speak for themselves. Accidents and tragedies happen every day.
It shouldn’t be a scary or taboo topic. Have the conversation with your friends and family today about your wishes and then document them in a health care directive. A health care directive is a legal document, but it can be re-visited and updated at any time.
It’s important to choose a health care agent and to have a conversation with your health care agent, so that person is aware of your wishes.
ACP is a gift for your family members and loved ones. In the event that something happens to you, ACP can provide great comfort to them that they are fulfilling your wishes.
There are community resources to help people complete their health care directives. These options are facilitated through Light The Legacy and are offered both virtually and in-person. A free Advance Care Planning Class is open to all ages from 11 a.m. to noon the first and third Tuesday of every month at Whitney Senior Center, 1527 Northway Drive, St. Cloud.
