The Facts About Donate Life Month
April is National Donate Life Month. An effort to bring awareness to organ, tissue and eye donation across the country.
The Need
- Each day, 22 people die while waiting for a transplant.
- A new name is added to the transplant waiting list every 10 minutes.
How Organ Donation Has Made a Difference Locally
- In 2020, CentraCare – St. Cloud Hospital had 10 organ donors who saved 28 lives.
- There were 25 tissue donors that benefited approximately 1,800 patients.
- There were 37 eye donors who gave the gift of sight through cornea transplantation and research.
Signing Up Is Easy
Among the ways you can sign up to become an organ, tissue or eye donor include:
- Checking the box on your driver’s license and sharing your wishes with your loved ones.
- If you have not already documented your choice on your driver’s license or state ID card, you may register at www.donatelifemn.org. The whole process takes less than five minutes.
- Registration is confidential and will help ensure that your wish to donate is fulfilled.
- If you already are listed as a donor on your driver’s license or state ID card, you do not need to register online.
