Learn How to Parent with Love and Logic

Published in Behavioral Health Services, Pediatrics, For the Health of It

Do you ever worry about the way your kids will turn out? Most parents probably do. Parenting the Love and Logic Way is an effective approach to raising children that helps increase the chances that they will grow up to become responsible adults.

The St. Cloud Area Family Y and CentraCare have partnered to offer parenting classes to the community. Parenting the Love and Logic Way is a three-class series that offers practical, easy-to-use techniques that help prepare kids for the real world while assisting parents with developing healthy and respectful relationships with their children.

The two rules of Love and Logic parenting are:

  1. Adults set firm limits in loving ways without anger, lecture or threats.
  2. When a child causes a problem the adult hands it back in loving ways.

The “Love” in Love and Logic means that parents love their kids so much that they are willing to set and enforce limits. This also means that this is done with sincere compassion and empathy.

The “Logic” in Love and Logic happens when parents allow their children to make mistakes and experience the natural or logical consequences associated with poor decisions. When this is balanced with sincere empathy, parents are using the following logic: Children learn that the quality of their lives depends on the quality of their choices.

Upcoming classes (each class consists of three separate sessions):

  • June 8, 15 and 29 from 3-6 p.m.
  • Sept. 14, 21 and 28 from 4-7 p.m.

The class is $80. St. Cloud Area Family Y members receive a $20 discount. With a limited number of participants, we safely can offer these classes while practicing social distancing. For more information, contact Jeffrey Reed, MS, LMFT, at 320-229-5128 or Parent.Enrichment@centracare.com.
