District 742 and CentraCare partner to offer school telehealth services

District 742 and CentraCare are partnering to bring health care services to students at Apollo High School and Tech High School. Through this collaboration, students can meet with a pediatric provider using video chat technology.

Students who are feeling ill and visit the nurse’s office at school will be offered the opportunity to see a CentraCare pediatric provider, when appropriate. The school nurse will help the student connect via video chat and operate any medical devices that help the provider assess the student’s condition.

“Telehealth technology gives us the opportunity to offer health care services in the school setting,” said Jon Dennis, MD, pediatrician at CentraCare. “In certain situations, we can save families a trip to the clinic.” If a prescription is needed, it will be sent to the student’s pharmacy of choice.

School telehealth services became available at Apollo High School this week. Students at Tech High School will have access to telehealth visits in October 2019.

The collaboration between District 742 and CentraCare has been a few years in the making as both organizations have worked together with the goal of increasing access to health care services in the school setting.
