Building a Healthy Community

Published in Inside CentraCare, For the Health of It

This fall, the community of Long Prairie will celebrate something remarkable. After years of dreaming, planning and building, this town has a new, state-of-the-art medical campus – one that is efficient for both patients and staff. Some of the highlights include:

  • Private patient rooms
  • Easily accessible and private emergency department
  • Two operating suites
  • Private recovery rooms
  • Dedicated labor and delivery suites
  • An in-house MRI
  • A healing garden
  • A bistro that is open to the public

CentraCare Health – Long Prairie has become a reality because of committed members of a community – people who are committed to their town, their families and their neighbors.

Together, more than 500 people raised over $2.5 million. That is no small feat for one of the most economically challenged communities in Minnesota. This tells me that keeping health care viable and accessible in Long Prairie matters. That wellness matters. That Long Prairie matters. I hear this from the community members I have spoken with. I saw it in their faces at the groundbreaking, when the capital campaign goal was surpassed, when the last structural beam was raised and I’ll see it again as we open the doors to the new CentraCare Health – Long Prairie medical campus.

Join us in celebrating this amazing journey at our Open House on Monday, Oct. 9!

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed it is the only thing that ever has.”
