Laser hair removal FAQs

Published in Skin Care

What is the best way to achieve silky smooth and hair-free skin? When compared to shaving, tweezing, and waxing — laser hair removal has them all beat! If you have concerns, check out the questions most frequently asked by patients at Midsota Plastic Surgeons.

What areas can be treated?
Laser hair removal is a very versatile treatment. Larger areas, like the legs, back, and abdomen are popular among men and women whereas smaller areas, like the face and bikini area, are favored by women. Just remember: the larger the area, the longer your treatment will be.

Will it hurt?
Without sugarcoating it, laser hair removal can be uncomfortable — but so can other methods of hair removal including shaving, waxing, and depilatories. And while some patients feel a slight stinging, others say it is feels closer to a tickle. How it will feel for you comes down to several factors including the area of removal, the amount of hair and your hair color.

Are the results permanent?
While you will notice significantly less hair growth after your treatment, you still may need to come in for touch-ups. For best results, we recommend that you visit Midsota Plastic Surgeons every six to 12 months.

When should I schedule my treatment?
The cooler months are an opportune time to start your treatment. Your clothing provides the perfect protection from damaging UV exposure and makes it easier to hide any post-treatment redness. It typically takes five to eight laser hair removal treatments spaced four to six weeks apart for the treatment to take full effect. By starting now, you can have smooth skin by summer.
