Screenagers addresses the most pervasive parenting issue of our time head on - depicting teen struggles over social media, video games and internet addiction. The film empowers kids to best navigate the digital world and provides practical resources to support both children and parents.
Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw her own children scroll through life with rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span and began a quest to uncover how it might impact their development. As with her other two award-winning documentaries on mental health, Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, Screenagers reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and also offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance.
“As a pediatrician and father, I understand the struggle parents have with setting and enforcing limits on screen time,” said Joe Mahoney, MD, Pediatrician with Stellis Health. “Screenagers is a revealing and educational look at the power of digital addiction that promotes dialogue on how we can help our children find balance in their digital lives. I highly recommend parents, grandparents and students attend Screenagers and engage in this important conversation.”
“Co-sponsoring Screenagers with Stellis Health emphasizes our commitment to the health and wellness of our community,” said Melissa Pribyl, RN, Community Health and Wellness Specialist at CentraCare Health – Monticello. “Understanding why we are so drawn to technology can help us set boundaries and support healthier relationships within our families, schools, workplaces and friend groups.”
